New Ethiopian immigrants head to Israel

More than 40 new immigrants have arrived in Israel yesterday just before Israel’s national election. The Beta Israel’s also called Ethiopian Jews are from 9 families that have already setteled in the country.

Ethiopian Jews live in the northern and northwestern part of Ethiopia especially in Amhara region which has a majority of Christian and Muslim population. There are around 8000 of them awaiting for permission to immigrate to the land of Hebrews.

The Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit is against the action and believes it is motivated politically just before the election. The number of Ethiopian Jews living in Israel has reached more than 150,000. Ethiopia news understands that Ethiopian Jews are not well assimilated into the Israeli Jewish society and live in a lower economic and educational leven than average Isreali.
